Fri May 23 20:20:00 UTC 2025: **Red Sox Acquire Ryan Noda from Angels for Cash Considerations**

**Boston, MA** – The Boston Red Sox have added depth to their first base situation, acquiring infielder/outfielder Ryan Noda from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations, the teams announced Thursday.

Noda, 29, was recently designated for assignment by the Angels and will be optioned to Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Noda on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox placed outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida on the 60-day injured list.

The move comes as the Red Sox are dealing with injuries at first base. Triston Casas is out for the season, and Romy González is currently on the injured list. While other players have been filling in, Noda provides a true first baseman with some major league experience.

Noda had a strong rookie season with the Oakland Athletics in 2023 after being selected in the Rule 5 draft, posting a .229/.364/.406 line with 16 home runs. While his strikeout rate was high, his ability to get on base and provide power was valuable. However, he struggled in 2024 and has had a slow start in Triple-A this year.

The Red Sox will evaluate Noda in Worcester to determine if he can contribute at the major league level. Meanwhile, Masataka Yoshida’s placement on the 60-day IL is procedural and does not affect his recovery timeline. He is eligible to return in about a week but has not yet begun a rehab assignment.
