Fri May 23 05:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Quang Tri Sends Teachers to Laos to Preserve Vietnamese Language and Culture
**Quang Tri, Vietnam -** Quang Tri province is reinforcing its commitment to preserving Vietnamese language and culture abroad by sending four teachers to Savannakhet province, Laos, this month. The educators will be stationed at the Lao-Vietnamese Friendship Secondary School, where they will teach Vietnamese to ethnic Vietnamese and mixed-race students.
According to Le Thi Huong, Director of the Quang Tri Department of Education and Training, this initiative, ongoing since 2007, aims to support the Vietnamese community in Laos. The three-year secondment program allows students to maintain proficiency in their mother tongue while facilitating pedagogical exchange between Vietnamese and Lao educators.
“This program enables Vietnamese students in Laos to practice speaking their mother tongue and for teachers in the two countries to exchange pedagogical experience,” Huong stated. She also expressed gratitude to Lao teachers for their dedication in maintaining Vietnamese language instruction during a two-year hiatus, beginning in 2023, when Quang Tri was unable to send replacements.
Recognizing the importance of job security for participating teachers, Quang Tri has ensured that this year’s educators have secured positions within the province’s education sector prior to their departure. This guarantees their benefits throughout their deployment. In addition to their Vietnamese salaries, the teachers will receive a monthly allowance of 3 million VND (116 USD) from the Lao government.
Representatives from the Vietnamese community in Savannakhet have expressed hope that the program will enable their children to develop sufficient language skills to pursue higher education opportunities in Vietnamese universities and vocational schools.
The Lao-Vietnamese Friendship Secondary School, established in 2019, currently hosts an average of 850 students from grades one to twelve annually. In addition to the standard Lao curriculum, the school offers instruction in Vietnamese language and culture, fostering a stronger connection to their heritage. This program represents a significant investment in the future of the Vietnamese diaspora in Laos.
