**West Bengal BJP Chief’s Wife Embroiled in Voter List Controversy**

**Kolkata – May 23, 2025:** A complaint has been filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar’s wife, whose name allegedly appears on voter lists in two separate locations: Balurghat and Jalpaiguri. The accusation comes amidst allegations from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of widespread discrepancies in voter lists, including instances of fake and duplicate voters.

Majumdar, also a Lok Sabha MP, dismissed the allegations as an exaggeration of a non-issue. He explained that his wife previously resided in Jalpaiguri before relocating and registering as a voter in Balurghat. Majumdar pointed blame at state government officials responsible for compiling voter lists, including Sub-Divisional Officers, Block Development Officers, and District Magistrates, suggesting they should be held accountable for any errors.

The controversy follows recent accusations from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who alleged that the ECI, with the support of the BJP, was adding voters from other states, such as Gujarat and Haryana, to the West Bengal electoral rolls. TMC leaders previously met with the Chief Electoral Officer to discuss concerns surrounding ‘fake voters’ in early March. The TMC had also formed a 36-member core committee to scrutinize the state’s electoral rolls, with members conducting door-to-door campaigns to verify voter information.
