**Bengaluru, May 22, 2025** – Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Limited (KSDL), the prestigious state-owned enterprise, has appointed actress Tamannaah Bhatia as its brand ambassador, according to an announcement made Thursday by Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil. The move is intended to significantly expand KSDL’s reach in both national and international markets.
Minister Patil defended the decision, calling it “thoughtful and research-backed,” despite some initial objections. Bhatia’s selection was based on her widespread popularity, strong digital presence, and ability to connect with younger demographics. She has been signed for a two-year period at a cost of ₹6.2 crore.
KSDL reported an impressive turnover of ₹1,785.99 crore in the financial year 2024–25, with 80% of its revenue generated from six key states: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra.
While other leading actresses such as Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna, Pooja Hegde, and Kiara Advani were also considered, Bhatia was ultimately chosen for her pan-India appeal, reasonable engagement terms, and significant digital reach, boasting over 28 million followers.
Marketing experts believe Bhatia’s persona aligns well with KSDL’s brand values of quality, heritage, and modern relevance, particularly resonating with younger audiences.
Patil emphasized that the endorsement is part of a broader strategic transformation underway at KSDL. He also highlighted the company’s commitment to local employment, noting that 89% of its workforce are Kannadigas. Plans are also underway to improve packaging and enhance brand value.
KSDL Chairman Appaji Nadagouda stated that a strong marketing strategy is essential for expanding the brand’s reach in North India and global markets. He emphasized that Bhatia’s appointment was based purely on marketing criteria and the government is committed to taking this 109-year-old state enterprise to new heights.
