**New Delhi:** A severe dust storm followed by heavy rain swept through Delhi-NCR Wednesday night, causing widespread chaos and claiming the lives of at least half a dozen people. The sudden weather shift brought down trees and power lines, crippling transportation and leaving many areas without electricity.

The storm hit after a day of intense heat and humidity. Wind speeds reached up to 79 kilometers per hour, uprooting trees and toppling electric poles. The aftermath revealed a scene of devastation across Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

Tragically, the storm resulted in multiple fatalities. In Delhi, a disabled man was killed when an electric pole fell on him in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area, and a 22-year-old lost his life after being trapped under a fallen tree in Gokulpuri. In Ghaziabad, a motorcyclist was killed by a falling tree, and a woman died when a wall collapsed on her shanty in the Khoda area. Another woman in Ghaziabad’s Masuri area died after falling into a drain during the storm. In Greater Noida, a woman was killed after a railing collapsed on her.

The storm severely disrupted air and rail traffic. Eleven flights were diverted from Delhi Airport to Jaipur, and 50 flights experienced delays. Train services on the Delhi-Howrah route were restricted, and the Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat train services faced temporary suspensions due to fallen trees on the tracks.

Power outages plagued many parts of Delhi-NCR as fallen power lines left residents in the dark for hours. Authorities are working to restore electricity and clear debris, but the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Residents are advised to remain cautious as cleanup efforts continue.
