**Supreme Court Grants Relief to DICCI in Tamil Nadu Welfare Scheme Case**
**New Delhi – May 20, 2025:** The Supreme Court of India has intervened in a case involving the Dalit Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DICCI), granting them interim relief related to corruption allegations concerning the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme (AABCS) in Tamil Nadu. The scheme is designed for the welfare of sanitation workers and the Dalit community.
A Bench led by Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice A.G. Masih stayed an order previously issued by the high court, allowing DICCI to be impleaded as respondents in the case. This grants DICCI the opportunity to present its side before any further decisions are made. The Supreme Court instructed the high court to consider DICCI’s impleadment application and issue an order after hearing all parties involved.
The court also questioned the urgency with which the high court addressed the petition, filed by activist Savukku Shankar, which sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged diversion of funds during the court’s vacation. Shankar’s petition alleges that funds intended for the welfare scheme were misappropriated.
