**Netflix and PBS Partner to Secure Future of ‘Sesame Street’**
**Los Angeles, CA** – In a landmark deal, Netflix has partnered with Sesame Workshop to ensure the future of the iconic children’s program, “Sesame Street.” This agreement comes after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew their contract for the show, creating uncertainty around its production and distribution.
Under the new arrangement, Netflix will stream new episodes of “Sesame Street” starting later this year with Season 56. Importantly, in a break from the previous HBO deal, new episodes will also air simultaneously on PBS and the PBS Kids app, ensuring free access for children across the United States.
“This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix’s global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love,” said Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin.
Season 56 will feature a reimagined format, shifting away from the magazine-style approach to include a longer central segment and a new animated series called “Tales From 123.” The new season will be released in three batches on Netflix.
The deal is a significant boon for Sesame Workshop, which recently faced a budget crunch and layoffs. The partnership with Netflix and PBS not only provides financial stability but also expands access to the program, offering it for free on public television, an unusual arrangement for the streaming giant.
Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS, added, “I strongly believe that our educational programming for children is one of the most important aspects of our service to the American people, and Sesame Street has been an integral part of that critical work for more than half a century. We’re proud to continue our partnership in the pursuit of having a profound impact on the lives of children for years to come.”
