**New Delhi, May 20, 2025:** The Indian government is taking a significant step towards combating financial cybercrime with the launch of a new system that automatically converts complaints involving fraud exceeding ₹10 lakh into First Information Reports (FIRs). The initiative, spearheaded by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), is being piloted in Delhi, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The “e-Zero FIR” system integrates the I4C’s National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), the Delhi Police’s e-FIR system, and the National Crime Record Bureau’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems. This automated process ensures that complaints lodged via the NCRP or the 1930 helpline, meeting the financial threshold, will immediately trigger the registration of a Zero FIR with the e-Crime Police Station of Delhi. The case will then be routed to the relevant Cybercrime Police Station.

Victims have a three-day window to visit the cybercrime Police Station and convert the Zero FIR into a regular FIR, initiating a formal investigation. This process is in line with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated that this initiative will improve the conversion rate of complaints into FIRs, facilitate the recovery of lost funds for victims, and ultimately enable stronger punitive action against cybercriminals. The MHA plans to extend the system nationwide in the near future.
