**Georgia Woman Survives Harrowing 3 Weeks Lost in California Mountains**
Fresno, CA – Tiffany Slaton, a 28-year-old from Jeffersonville, Georgia, has been found alive after surviving for nearly three weeks in the rugged mountains of Fresno, California. Slaton, an experienced forager and outdoor enthusiast, went missing on April 29th after embarking on what was intended to be a three-day solo camping trip.
Slaton’s parents reported her missing after not hearing from her for nine days. Search and rescue efforts were scaled back earlier this week after no confirmed sightings since April 24th.
Slaton recounted her ordeal at a press conference Friday, describing a series of challenging events. She stated that she fell off a cliff and was knocked unconscious, resulting in injuries to both legs. Despite her injuries, she was able to splint one leg and reset a knee. Due to a recent avalanche and lack of cell service, she was unable to make contact for help.
For nearly three weeks, she fought off animals, survived on leeks and boiled snow, hiked peaks up to 11,000 feet high, and endured 13 heavy snowstorms.
“Nature is quite terrifying,” Slaton said. “Once you start finding things that are scary for you, you do your best to keep moving and get over it.”
Slaton was found on Wednesday after finding shelter in an unlocked cabin at a resort near Lake Edison. Resort owner Christopher Gutierrez had left the cabin unlocked as a precaution for someone who needed shelter.
“As soon as I saw her, she didn’t say a word, just ran up and all she wanted was a hug. It was a pretty surreal moment,” Gutierrez said.
Slaton was treated for dehydration. Deputies confirmed that she was found approximately 45 miles from where she was last seen. Despite some eye damage from the snow, minor cuts and burns, and a 10-pound weight loss, her blood work came back normal.
Slaton will return home to Georgia with her family. She plans to write about her experience and states she may never go on a vacation longer than three days again. Her mother stated that she would be buying Tiffany a GPS.
