“The school authorities claimed they were only removing concrete to lay tiles, but we saw additional construction waste being dumped in the wetland, along with earthmover tracks leading to the site,” said P.M. Jeejabai, Secretary of the Vazhathuruthi Residents Association.

Following a confrontation with local residents, the Revenue Department confiscated the earthmover. Village Officer P. Dhanya confirmed that the landfilling violated the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008.
