Sun May 18 17:14:05 UTC 2025: ## Indonesian Hospital Shut Down Amid Intensified Israeli Attacks on Gaza Healthcare
**Gaza -** The Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza has been forced to shut down after being targeted by Israeli drone strikes and surrounded by ground forces, according to health officials. This latest incident marks a significant blow to the already decimated healthcare system in the region, which has been repeatedly targeted during the ongoing conflict.
Dr. Marwan al-Sultan, Director of the Indonesian Hospital, stated that the facility was under direct fire, including the intensive care unit, leaving patients and medical staff trapped inside with no means of access. The closure of the Indonesian Hospital leaves North Gaza without any operational public hospitals.
The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed the siege, stating that the hospital was effectively forced out of service after Israel blocked the entry of patients and staff, creating a state of panic. They added the other facilities in the north, have been bombed, burned, and besieged by the Israeli military include Kamal Adwan Hospital, al-Shifa Hospital, al-Ahli Hospital, and al-Awda Hospital.
Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of al-Shifa Hospital, described the intensifying attacks on hospitals, highlighting the severe strain on medical teams and the urgent need for blood donations. He warned of a potential mass death of sick and wounded individuals.
Human rights groups and UN experts have accused Israel of systematically dismantling Gaza’s healthcare system, a claim Israel denies. The targeting of healthcare facilities is considered a war crime under international law.
The attacks come amid a surge in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, with the European Hospital, the only remaining facility providing cancer treatments, also reportedly out of service. Recent strikes have resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, further overwhelming the already stretched medical resources.
Humanitarian officials warn that Gaza is facing one of its darkest periods, with famine looming and a severe shortage of medical supplies, fuel, and other essential aid due to the ongoing blockade.
The renewed intensity of the conflict has resulted in a surge of casualties, with preliminary data showing levels of violence comparable to the heaviest periods of bombardment in the early stages of the war. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates that an average of 100 children have been killed or maimed by Israeli air strikes every day in the last ten days of March. Several aid workers and journalists have also been killed in recent attacks.
