**Winter is Coming… Later Than Expected: “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” Pushed to 2026**
**NEW YORK, NY** – Game of Thrones fans eager to return to Westeros will have to exercise a bit more patience. HBO’s highly anticipated prequel series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” has been officially slated for a winter 2026 release. The news was revealed during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation to advertisers at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, alongside a first-look trailer.
While executives had previously hinted at a late 2025 premiere, the release date has shifted, pushing the second “Game of Thrones” spinoff behind “House of the Dragon”. HBO has yet to announce a premiere window for the third season of “House of the Dragon”
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight.” The series will take place roughly a century before the events of “Game of Thrones” and a century after the events of “House of the Dragon.” It follows Ser Duncan the Tall, portrayed by Peter Claffey, a young, naive but courageous knight, and his squire, Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell. The duo embarks on adventures across Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty. Expect encounters with prominent Targaryen figures, the Laughing Storm, Ser Lyonel Baratheon and Tanselle, a puppeteer, promising a dive into the rich history and political intrigue of the Seven Kingdoms.
The logline for the series reads: “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker (“The Sympathizer,” “House of the Dragon”) serve as writers and executive producers. Ryan Condal (“House of the Dragon”), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also executive produce. Sarah Adina Smith (“Lessons In Chemistry,” “Hanna”) will direct three episodes, and executive producer Harris will helm the remaining three.
