**Sergio Garcia Determined to Secure Spot at The Open Championship After Near Miss**

MACAU – Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, is vowing to explore “every option” to qualify for The Open Championship this July at Royal Portrush, after narrowly missing a qualifying spot at the Asian Tour’s International Series Macau. A missed three-foot putt on the 72nd hole cost the Spaniard one of the three coveted spots at the major tournament.

“When it comes to The Open, this is something that I would love to be a part of again,” Garcia told Fox Sports. “It’s my favorite major… I was very close in Macau, but unfortunately, I fell short. I’ll just keep trying. I’m going to use every option that I have.”

One of Garcia’s most promising avenues to qualification is a new exemption awarded by the R&A to a LIV Golf player. The top-ranked player in the LIV Golf standings, not otherwise exempt, will earn the coveted spot after the Dallas event in June. Garcia currently sits fourth in the LIV Golf standings, but the three players ahead of him, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Joaquin Niemann, have already qualified for The Open.

Other less realistic options for Garcia include attempting to win one of two tickets at the DP World Tour’s Italian Open, which conflicts with the Dallas LIV Golf event. He could also participate in regional and final qualifiers, a route he attempted unsuccessfully in 2024.

Garcia has already competed in the Masters and PGA Championship this season, missing the cut at the Masters and finishing outside of contention at the PGA Championship.

In the same interview, Garcia reiterated his desire to participate in the Ryder Cup, to be held in September at Bethpage Black. He currently has no ranking points.

“Probably the most important thing is to keep playing like I’ve been playing…And then it’ll come down to [Luke Donald] and his team deciding if I can bring something extra that will help,” Garcia said.
