Sun May 18 11:00:00 UTC 2025: **Scheffler Seizes Lead at PGA Championship After Blistering Saturday Round**
**Charlotte, NC -** World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler surged to the top of the leaderboard at the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, firing a 6-under 65 in Saturday’s third round. After early thunderstorms gave way to sunny skies, Scheffler’s performance propelled him to 11-under par for the tournament, giving him a three-stroke lead over Alex Noren.
Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, is now poised to capture his first major championship outside of Augusta. “These tournaments are very important to us,” Scheffler told CNN. “Tomorrow I have a good opportunity to go out there and try and win… But it’s going to take another really good round.”
Noren shot a 5-under par on Saturday, leaving him at 8-under for the tournament.
The first two rounds saw Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas make history as the first player from his country to lead or co-lead a major. However, Saturday proved to be a struggle, with Vegas shooting 2-over par and falling into a tie for fifth place, five strokes behind Scheffler. Despite the setback, Vegas remains in contention for his first top-20 finish at a major.
LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau experienced a dramatic collapse on the “Green Mile,” Quail Hollow’s challenging closing stretch. After surging to the lead with five birdies, a bogey on the 16th and a double bogey on the 17th dropped him to a tie for eighth. “It was just an unfortunate series of events,” DeChambeau said. “It’s just, it’s golf. Sometimes that happens.”
Scheffler and Noren will tee off together on Sunday at 2:40 p.m. ET, while DeChambeau will play with Tony Finau at 2 p.m. ET. The final round promises high stakes and thrilling competition as Scheffler aims for his third major title and other contenders look to chase him down.
