**Charlotte, NC -** Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela sits atop the leaderboard at the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow after a wild second round. Vegas, who reached -10 at one point, carded a 70 to finish at -8 overall, two strokes ahead of a trio of players including Si Woo Kim, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Matthieu Pavon.
The round wasn’t without drama for Vegas, who double-bogeyed the 18th hole, surrendering his comfortable lead. Pavon, after a bogey-free round, carded 65, now lies in solo second place.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler continued his steady play, firing a 68 to move to -5, within striking distance of the lead. Despite not having his best game on Thursday, Scheffler remained in contention.
Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, Scheffler’s playing partners, narrowly made the cut at +1, with McIlroy escaping disaster with a fortunate break on the final hole.
Other notable performances include Max Homa, who posted a stunning 64, the lowest round of his major championship career, placing him at -5. Bryson DeChambeau is also in the hunt at -3, while Luke Donald, at -3, couldn’t continue with his great play from Thursday.
Several big names are projected to miss the cut, including Justin Rose, Cameron Smith, and Ludvig Aberg.
