**Mysuru, India – May 18, 2025** – Nearly 130 history enthusiasts from Mysuru, Mandya, and Hassan participated in a special heritage tour dubbed “Museum on Wheels” on Sunday, marking International Museum Day. The initiative, organized by the Department of Archaeology, Museums, and Heritage, provided a free guided experience across four prominent museums and galleries in Mysuru.
The tour included visits to the Wellington Museum, Payana (an automobile heritage museum), the Regional Museum of Natural History, and the Mysuru Rail Museum. Participants explored artifacts and exhibits showcasing the region’s art, culture, history, flora, fauna, and automobile and railway heritage.
A. Devaraju, Commissioner of the Department, inaugurated the event and emphasized the vital role museums play in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. He encouraged parents and teachers to cultivate children’s interest in museums from a young age, highlighting their ability to enrich understanding of art, culture, history, and tradition.
In line with the International Council of Museums’ theme for 2025, “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the Department plans to further engage students with debate and essay writing contests focused on the evolving role of museums. The “Museum on Wheels” initiative and planned activities aim to ensure museums remain relevant and accessible to future generations.
