**Former Mangaluru Councillor Booked for Inflammatory Social Media Posts**

MANGALURU, May 18, 2025 – Police in Mangaluru have filed a case against Shwetha Poojary, a former BJP councillor at the Mangaluru City Corporation Council, over two allegedly inflammatory posts on her Facebook account. The action follows a complaint filed by Mahila Congress activist Shanta S. Rao.

According to the complaint, Ms. Poojary’s May 9th post referenced the Suhas Shetty case in Bajpe, stating that Burka-clad women who allegedly aided the assailants’ escape would be “taught a lesson.” Another post reportedly used a photo of Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and criticized him in a derogatory manner for his comments about the BJP’s alleged role in creating criminals during their tenure.

The Surathkal police have registered the case under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita. The Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime (CEN) police have been tasked with investigating the matter and have issued a notice to Ms. Poojary, requesting her appearance for questioning.

In a separate incident, Reshma Belal, a resident of Belthangady, has been booked for an Instagram post criticizing “Operation Sindoor,” a detail that is missing in the text. Her post, featuring the hashtag “#dikkaraoperationsindura,” expressed a sentiment of darkness prevailing despite a fight for light. Police have registered a case under Section 353(2) and asked Ms. Belal to appear for inquiry.

Both cases are currently under investigation by the CEN police.
