Fri May 16 18:50:00 UTC 2025: ## White Sox Ride Martin’s Strong Outing to Victory Over Slumping Reds
**CINCINNATI** – Davis Martin delivered a stellar performance on the mound, pitching into the seventh inning and allowing just one run, as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Wednesday night. The win marks the White Sox’s season-high third consecutive victory, continuing their recent turnaround.
Lenyn Sosa and Michael A. Taylor provided the offensive firepower for Chicago, each launching home runs. Martin (2-4) earned his first win since April 11th, allowing seven hits in a career-high 6 2/3 innings. Mike Vasil closed the door in the ninth, securing his first career save.
The Reds, playing before a sold-out crowd of 43,585 on “Pete Rose Night,” continued their struggles, losing their ninth game in the last eleven. Cincinnati’s offense has sputtered recently, scoring only 16 runs in their last five games, including a high-scoring affair against Houston. Spencer Steer homered for the Reds, but the team struggled to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 1-for-9 in those situations.
The White Sox jumped ahead early in the second inning against Reds starter Nick Lodolo (3-4), when Luis Robert Jr. singled, stole second, and scored on an Andrew Vaughn double. Robert added an RBI single in the fifth, followed by Sosa’s homer in the sixth and Taylor’s leadoff blast in the seventh.
Lodolo was tagged with three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Austin Hays doubled in a run for the Reds in the eighth, but Steer’s flyout ended the threat.
The White Sox, now 5-17 on the road this season, look to continue their winning streak as they wrap up the series against the Reds on Thursday afternoon. Bryse Wilson (0-1, 4.88 ERA) will start for Chicago, while Nick Martinez (1-4, 4.23 ERA) will take the mound for Cincinnati.
