Sat May 17 07:00:26 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Under Fire: Thousands Flee Northern Areas as Israeli Strikes Intensify
**Gaza City, Occupied Palestinian Territories** – Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing northern Gaza following intensified Israeli air strikes, which have left a trail of devastation and claimed the lives of at least 115 people since Friday. The Israeli military has issued orders for residents to evacuate parts of northern Gaza, including the Beit Lahiya area, as part of a new offensive dubbed “Operation Gideon’s Chariots.”
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that over 19,000 Palestinians have been displaced in Gaza since Thursday afternoon, many forced to leave with only the clothes on their backs. “Nowhere is safe in Gaza,” the IOM stated on X, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation.
The Israeli military stated that “Operation Gideon’s Chariots” marks the “initial stages” of expanding the battle in the Gaza Strip, with the stated goals of securing the release of hostages and defeating Hamas. The army also announced the mobilization of troops to achieve operational control in the area.
The intensified bombardment has resulted in a surge of casualties. Over 100 Palestinians were killed on Thursday in similar attacks, adding to the already staggering death toll. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, at least 53,119 Palestinians have been killed and 120,214 wounded since October 2024. The Government Media Office in Gaza estimates the death toll to be even higher, exceeding 61,700, with thousands still missing under the rubble.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in widespread displacement and a severe humanitarian crisis, with concerns mounting over the safety and well-being of civilians trapped in the war-torn enclave.
