**Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms Forecast for Telugu States**

**Hyderabad/Vijayawada, May 16, 2025** – Residents of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are bracing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days, Friday and Saturday, according to the Meteorological Department. The downpour is attributed to upper air cyclonic circulations over southwest Bay of Bengal off North Tamil Nadu coast and over North Interior Karnataka and neighborhood.

The Southwest Monsoon has already reached the Andaman coast, four days ahead of schedule, raising expectations for an early arrival in Kerala and potentially the Telugu states.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated across both states, with some areas already experiencing significant downpours. Vijayawada was hit with continuous rain since Thursday midnight, leading to waterlogged streets and flooded low-lying areas. Several districts across Andhra Pradesh reported rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 12 districts in Telangana, warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

While rains bring relief, the region is also experiencing heatwave conditions. Parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh have seen temperatures 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal, with daytime highs reaching over 42°C (108°F) in some locations.

The State Disaster Management Authority has warned of sudden thunderstorms with lightning in the next two days, alongside temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104°F). People are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. The weather department predicted strong winds and lightning strikes and advised people to remain safe.
