Sat May 17 03:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Minecraft Mania Hits Boothbay Harbor Ahead of Movie Release
**Boothbay Harbor, ME -** The cubic craze of Minecraft is taking over Boothbay Harbor this week, with special events planned around the opening of “A Minecraft Movie” at Harbor Theater this Friday, May 16th.
The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library is kicking off the fun with a Board Game Night on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., giving families a chance to connect through gaming before heading to the theater.
Harbor Theater is offering a special Family Free Pass deal for the 7:00 p.m. opening night showing of “A Minecraft Movie.” Families can reserve one free adult and one free child ticket online. Library staff will be available to help families sign up for the free passes before the movie.
To add to the excitement, moviegoers will have the opportunity to win Minecraft-themed prizes! Sherman’s Bookstore has donated two Minecraft Magnetic Travel Puzzles to be raffled off at the Friday night premiere.
“A Minecraft Movie” follows four misfits who are transported to the Overworld, a fantastical, cube-filled dimension where imagination is key to survival. Joined by the expert crafter Steve (voiced by Jack Black), they must learn to navigate this new world, fend off threats like Piglins and Zombies, and ultimately, rediscover their own creativity to return home.
According to Kyle Smith of the Wall Street Journal, “Mr. Hess and his five screenwriters have mined childhood to craft something that’s alive with imagination… It’s not the most polished movie you’ll see this year, but it’s as cheerfully mad as a little kid’s birthday party.”
“A Minecraft Movie” will continue its run at Harbor Theater with additional showings on Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m., and Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m.
Don’t miss out on the Minecraft fun happening at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, Harbor Theater, and Sherman’s Bookstore!
