Sat May 17 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Haryana Weather Takes a Turn: Unexpected Rainfall, Heatwave Warning Issued
**Chandigarh, Haryana -** While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had not issued any specific alerts for Saturday, unexpected rainfall swept through parts of Haryana, bringing a temporary respite from the rising temperatures.
Residents of Panipat woke up to heavy showers, following overcast skies and inclement weather throughout the previous day. Similarly, Sonipat experienced thunderstorms and rainfall early Saturday morning, leading to a noticeable cooling of the atmosphere. Cloudy conditions were also reported in Karnal.
This comes despite the IMD’s forecast predicting dry weather across the state for May 17th and 18th, followed by anticipated rainfall in specific districts on May 19th and 20th. According to the forecast, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, and Mewat are likely to experience up to 25% rainfall on May 19th, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. On May 20th, Panchkula and Yamunanagar are expected to see similar conditions.
However, the reprieve is expected to be short-lived. The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for Haryana starting May 25th, marking the beginning of “Nautapa,” a period known for intense heat.
In anticipation of the heatwave, the state’s Health Department is taking precautionary measures. Guidelines are being issued and hospitals are being instructed to prepare dedicated wards with 24-hour emergency staff to handle heat-related illnesses.
**Fluctuating Temperatures:**
On Friday, Haryana’s maximum temperature saw a marginal increase of 0.1 degrees Celsius. Sirsa remained the hottest district in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius. Over the past 24 hours, most districts experienced an increase in maximum temperatures, with Faridabad recording the highest jump of 1.9 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Ambala saw the most significant drop of 3.3 degrees Celsius.
The weather in Haryana remains unpredictable, with residents urged to stay informed about the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions against both rainfall and the anticipated heatwave.
