**Jason Voorhees Gets a Retro Makeover for “Crystal Lake” Series and Beyond**
**[City, State] – [Date]** – Horror, Inc., the company behind the iconic Jason Voorhees franchise, has unveiled a new (yet familiar) look for the legendary slasher, timed to coincide with the 45th anniversary of “Friday the 13th.” The updated design, a return to Jason’s classic aesthetic from the early films, will debut in the upcoming A24/Peacock series, “Crystal Lake,” and will be consistently used across all “Jason Universe” media, including future video games and, potentially, movies.
Special makeup effects artist Greg Nicotero (of “The Walking Dead” fame) collaborated with Horror, Inc. on the look. Rob Barsamian of Horror, Inc. emphasized the intent to honor the original character while ushering him into a new era.
“We strive to maintain Jason’s original essence, while continuing to move toward the future with a defined look and feel that takes Jason into his next chapter,” said Barsamian. “We gave Greg our new 13-hole mask and worked together on this full body look that embodies classic Jason. He’s a strong, towering and terrifying slasher with a machete, his weapon of choice.”
While the move ensures consistency across the franchise, some worry about the limitations it places on future creatives who might want to put their own spin on the character’s design.
The announcement comes amidst renewed excitement for the “Friday the 13th” franchise. After years of legal battles, original screenwriter Victor Miller regained the rights to the cinematic franchise in 2024, opening the door for a potential new movie. It has been 16 years since Jason terrorized moviegoers, leaving fans eager for a thirteenth installment. The new Jason look and the upcoming “Crystal Lake” series suggest that wait may soon be over.
