**Delhi High Court Orders JNU to Allow Suspended Students to Take Exams**

**New Delhi, May 15, 2025** – The Delhi High Court intervened on Tuesday, ordering Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to permit nine students, recently suspended on allegations of sexual harassment, to sit for their examinations, which commenced on Wednesday.

The university administration had suspended the students on May 5th for two semesters, also prohibiting them from entering the campus, following complaints lodged by female students with the Internal Complaints Committee regarding incidents stemming from a freshers’ party held on October 22, 2024. A total of forty-seven women had reported experiencing sexual harassment and violence during the event organized by the Centre for the Study of Social Systems.

“The respondent university is directed to allow the petitioners to take their examination, till the next date of hearing on May 28 and no coercive action shall be taken against them [students] to vacate their hostels,” the court stated in its order.

Advocate Kumar Piyush Pushkar, representing the suspended students, argued that the university conducted an inquiry without allowing the petitioners the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses.

The students, seeking to overturn the university’s decision, claimed they were notified of their suspension without a proper investigation or the formation of a disciplinary committee. They contended that the university’s actions were arbitrary and violated established procedures.
