Wed May 14 12:20:00 UTC 2025: ## MP Minister Faces FIR Over Derogatory Remarks Against Colonel

**Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh** – The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah for his controversial remarks regarding Colonel Sofia Qureshi. A bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Anuradha Shukla took suo moto cognizance of the matter and directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to register the FIR and take action promptly.

The court deemed Shah’s statement, made at a public event in Mhow, Indore, as promoting communal disharmony and insulting to Colonel Qureshi, a Muslim officer, by linking her to terrorism. Shah had reportedly stated that Col. Qureshi was like the “sister of terrorists” sent to avenge the harm done to Hindu women, referencing alleged actions taken by the government against terrorists.

The High Court has instructed police to file charges under sections pertaining to inciting communal disharmony and endangering the unity and integrity of India, emphasizing that failure to register the FIR by Wednesday evening would result in contempt of court proceedings against the DGP.

Following the order, Indore Rural DIG Nimesh Agarwal stated that the FIR would be registered as soon as the court order is received.

The controversy sparked widespread condemnation, with the Congress party demanding Shah’s expulsion from the BJP. Former Union Minister Arun Yadav called for Shah’s immediate removal. The BJP leadership reportedly summoned Shah to the state headquarters, where he was reprimanded by the party’s organization secretary, Hitanand Sharma. Sources indicate Shah apologized and vowed to refrain from such statements in the future.

Shah later defended his remarks, claiming his words were taken out of context and that he was praising the government’s response to terrorism. He stated that his remarks should not be interpreted as an insult to the army officer.
