Tue May 13 18:24:56 UTC 2025: **Headline: India Expels Pakistani Diplomat Amid Rising Tensions**

**New Delhi, May 14, 2025** – India has declared an official from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi “persona non grata” and ordered their expulsion within 24 hours, citing espionage activities. The decision was communicated to Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires, Saad Warraich, on Tuesday.

According to sources, the expelled official is allegedly linked to two individuals arrested in Punjab over the weekend for leaking sensitive information about Indian Army movements to Pakistan. These arrests come amid a backdrop of heightened military activity and troop build-up along the India-Pakistan border since May 7.

Punjab Police reported that the arrested individuals were transmitting information to a “Pakistan-based handler” in exchange for online payments. Authorities are currently investigating the network of local operatives connected to the espionage activity.

The expulsion further strains already tense relations between the two nations. In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April, both countries expelled defense attaches and reduced the size of their respective diplomatic missions. Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since May 10, diplomatic spats have continued.

Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly criticized Prime Minister Modi’s remarks regarding “Operation Sindoor,” where he declared a “new normal” in India’s response to cross-border terrorism. India’s Ministry of External Affairs retorted, accusing Pakistan of fostering terrorism and asserting that it must face the consequences.
