**Purnia, Bihar –** The father of Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, the architect of India’s recent air strikes against Pakistan, learned of his son’s pivotal role in “Operation Sindoor” in a rather unconventional way. Jeevachhlal Yadav, 85, only discovered his son’s televised briefing detailing the precision air strikes on Pakistani air bases after a neighbor alerted him on Sunday evening.
Yadav, initially unaware of his son’s involvement, missed the beginning of the briefing. He expressed regret at missing the initial moments, but has since been glued to the television, proudly watching his son’s appearances on news channels. His 80-year-old mother, Urmila Devi, was unaware of the events while tending to their fields.
The revelation has brought unexpected fame to the family in Purnia. The family has received numerous calls and visits from well-wishers congratulating them. Air Marshal Bharti’s younger brother, Mithilesh Kumar, described his brother as private, while his sister-in-law, a former IAF short service commission officer, is easier to contact. The youngest brother, Dr. Rajesh Bharti, declined to comment.
Yadav proudly recounted his son’s academic achievements, highlighting his consistent top marks throughout school and his prestigious “Sword of Honour” award at the National Defence Academy (NDA), where he was known as the “galloping horse” for his cross-country running record. A retired Group Captain, Vishwajeet Kumar, a junior to Bharti at school and the NDA, confirmed the nickname and further highlighted Air Marshal Bharti’s key role in planning the air operations in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Air Marshal Bharti’s decorated career includes commanding a frontline fighter base and holding several significant assignments in India and abroad. His strategic planning and coordination in Operation Sindoor led to significant losses for Pakistan, ultimately prompting a ceasefire request. His awards include the Vayu Sena Medal (VM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). The news of his crucial role in the operation has brought immense pride to his family and the entire town of Purnia.
