Tue May 13 09:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Apple to Pay $95 Million in Siri Privacy Lawsuit Settlement
**San Francisco, CA –** Apple will pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging its Siri voice assistant secretly recorded users’ private conversations. The settlement, reached in the *Lopez v. Apple* case, covers users who owned Siri-enabled devices between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, and experienced unintended Siri activations during private conversations. While Apple denies the allegations, the settlement avoids a lengthy and potentially costly trial.
The lawsuit, initially filed in 2021, claimed that Siri’s accidental activation led to the recording and potential sharing of confidential information with third parties, including advertisers. Plaintiffs cited instances where they received targeted ads after discussing products aloud, even reporting instances of recordings without any voice command. These claims were supported by a 2019 Guardian article detailing Apple contractors’ access to sensitive data.
Eligible devices include iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, iMacs, HomePods, iPod touches, and Apple TVs. Individuals can claim up to $20 per device, with a maximum payout of $100 per person for up to five devices. The claim process is open until July 2, 2025, through the Lopez Voice Assistant Settlement website. Many claimants have received email or postcard notifications with claim codes. A court hearing to finalize the settlement is scheduled for August 1st. If approved, payments will be distributed as soon as possible, pending any appeals. Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment.
