**Bindi Irwin Undergoes Emergency Surgery, Reveals Endometriosis Battle**
**NEW YORK, NY – May 13, 2024** – Conservationist and television personality Bindi Irwin is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery in New York City. Irwin, 26, revealed via Instagram that her appendix ruptured, requiring immediate removal. During the procedure, doctors also discovered and removed 14 new endometriosis lesions, adding to the 37 previously removed in 2022. Doctors also repaired a hernia, which Irwin believes was related to childbirth.
The surgery forced Irwin to miss the annual Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas on May 10th. Her brother, Robert Irwin, 21, took over hosting duties and told PEOPLE that his sister had initially intended to “tough it out” despite being in considerable pain. However, medical advice ultimately led to her emergency surgery.
“I am so thankful that I got the help I needed with Dr. Seckin and Dr. Chu at Lenox Hill Hospital,” Irwin wrote in her Instagram caption. She thanked her family for their support, particularly her mother, and acknowledged the dedication of her husband, Chandler, and daughter, Grace.
Irwin first publicly shared her endometriosis diagnosis in March 2023, after experiencing debilitating symptoms for over a decade. This surgery marks the latest development in her ongoing battle with the condition.
Robert Irwin spoke proudly of his sister’s resilience, while also highlighting the importance of prioritizing health. Bindi Irwin remains optimistic about her recovery and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. She remains focused on raising awareness and funds for Wildlife Warriors.
