**Belagavi Police Denounce Fake News Alleging Attack on Army Officer’s Family**

**BELAGAVI, KARNATAKA, May 13, 2025** – Belagavi police have issued a statement refuting a viral social media post claiming that RSS activists attacked the family of Colonel Sofia Qureshi, spokesperson for the Indian Army. The post, circulated under the handle @uddinanis867, alleged a violent home invasion targeting Col. Qureshi’s family in Gokak, Belagavi district.

The fabricated post claimed that Col. Qureshi’s son, Sameer, was brutally assaulted, that attackers searched for her daughter, Hanima, and that the house was set on fire amidst hateful slogans. It further alleged that Col. Qureshi’s movements were restricted, her family relocated to Delhi, and her name added to an RSS “hit list.” The post included hashtags such as #ColSophiaunderattack, #RSSviolence, #Belagaviattack, and #Muslimlivesmatter.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bheemashanakar S. Guled has confirmed that the allegations are false and that an investigation into the source of the fake news is underway. Images accompanying the false claims purportedly showed a ransacked home and a photo of Colonel Qureshi during a press briefing for Operation Sindoor.

“This is completely fabricated news,” SP Guled stated in a press conference today. “We are taking this matter very seriously and are working to identify and prosecute those responsible for spreading this misinformation.”

Authorities urge the public to verify information before sharing it on social media to prevent the spread of false narratives and maintain community harmony.
