Tue May 13 10:10:26 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Overhauls School System to Improve Learning Outcomes
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** The Andhra Pradesh School Education department announced a major restructuring of the state’s public school system, effective from the 2025-26 academic year. The reorganization, detailed in a government order (GO No. 19), aims to optimize resource allocation and improve student learning outcomes.
The new structure categorizes state-run schools into nine types based on grade levels and enrollment: Satellite Foundation Schools (Pre-Primary I & II), Foundational Schools (Pre-Primary I & II, Classes 1 & 2), Basic Primary Schools (Pre-Primary I & II, Classes 1-5), Model Primary Schools (Pre-Primary I & II, Classes 1-5), Upper Primary Schools (Pre-Primary I & II, Classes 1-8), High Schools (Classes 6-10), High Schools (Classes 1-10), High School Plus (Classes 6-12), and High School Plus (Classes 1-12).
Anganwadi centers will be integrated into the system, functioning as Satellite Foundation Schools if located more than 1km from a primary school, teaching Pre-Primary I & II. Those closer will be incorporated into Foundational Schools alongside classes 1 and 2. The restructuring also specifies teacher roles and responsibilities within each school type, aiming to distribute workloads more effectively.
This overhaul is presented as a response to shortcomings in the previous system, which allegedly led to a significant increase in students transferring to private schools, a rise in dropout rates, and excessive teacher workloads. The department hopes this restructuring will reverse these trends and improve educational standards across the state.
