Tue May 13 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## UP Braces for Heatwave After Recent Rains; Monsoon Forecast Hints at Early Arrival

**Lucknow, India** – Uttar Pradesh (UP) is expected to experience a significant temperature surge following recent rain and hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for 19 districts, with temperatures potentially reaching 44°C in several areas over the next two days. Banda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43.3°C in the past 24 hours, while Meerut recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 23.8°C. Meteorologists predict a 5-6°C temperature increase this week, with eastern UP potentially seeing temperatures as high as 46°C.

However, some respite is anticipated. The IMD forecasts light rain and thundershowers in the Terai region from May 16th due to a developing cyclonic circulation.

The soaring temperatures have already impacted daily life, particularly in Varanasi, where the normally bustling ghats are deserted during peak sunlight hours. Locals are seeking relief in the Ganga River.

Meanwhile, the IMD predicts the southwest monsoon will hit the Kerala coast on May 27th, four days earlier than usual. This may lead to the monsoon reaching UP by June 20th, two days later than the usual date of June 18th, although this is not guaranteed. While the Kerala arrival date does not directly correlate with UP’s monsoon onset, predictions suggest above-normal rainfall for UP this monsoon season, potentially 15-20% more than last year.

In other news, a three-year-old child, Rakshit, died after falling into a 70-foot-deep borewell in Mathura. Despite rescue efforts, he succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
