Tue May 13 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Madhya Pradesh Braces for More Storms and High Temperatures

**Bhopal, May 7:** Madhya Pradesh continues to experience a spell of thunderstorms and rain due to the combined influence of a western disturbance, a trough, and a cyclonic circulation. Several districts experienced erratic weather on Monday, and similar conditions are forecast for Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and rain across 35 districts in the state, including major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain, until May 16. Wind speeds could reach 30-50 km/h. While some areas will experience this unsettled weather, other regions, particularly in the northern parts (Gwalior-Chambal region), will see a rise in temperatures alongside the storms.

On Monday, temperatures exceeded 41°C in some areas, with Khajuraho recording the highest at 41.4°C. Bhopal saw a high of 38.4°C, Indore 36.7°C, Gwalior 40.4°C, Ujjain 37.8°C, and Jabalpur 38.3°C. The IMD predicts that the heat will intensify after May 16th in areas not affected by the current weather systems.

The IMD also highlighted that May is typically the hottest month in the state, with temperatures reaching 47-48°C in some cities over the past decade. Several districts, including those in the Gwalior-Chambal and Malwa-Nimar regions, are expected to see temperatures exceeding 45°C this May, with some areas potentially reaching 48°C. Gwalior is anticipated to be the hottest, with temperatures potentially reaching 46-47°C.

April also saw a mix of intense heat and rain, with the last week of the month marked by hailstorms and rain due to active weather systems. The IMD’s long-term data reveals that both intense heat and rainfall are common occurrences in May across major cities such as Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Jabalpur.
