**Madurai, May 12, 2025** – Two men died during the Lord Kallazhagar’s Vaigai River entry event, a highlight of the Chithirai festival in Madurai on Monday. A 61-year-old man, Boominathan from Tirunelveli, collapsed at the event and died en route to Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). Doctors reported he was a known cardiac patient. A 43-year-old man, Kannan, was found unconscious near Goripalayam and also declared dead upon arrival at GRH. The cause of his death remains undetermined. Authorities are investigating, with initial reports citing potential delays in ambulance access at the crowded event as a contributing factor to Boominathan’s death. A post-mortem will determine the exact cause of Boominathan’s death.
