Mon May 12 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Netflix’s “The Royals” Promises a Rom-Com with a Royal Twist

**Mumbai, India** – Netflix is set to release its new Indian romantic comedy, “The Royals,” on April 24th. The series follows the unlikely pairing of Aviraaj Singh (Ishaan Khatter), a polo-playing prince grappling with his family’s financial woes, and Sophia Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), a driven startup founder facing challenges in the cutthroat world of luxury homestays.

Described as a “breezy rom-com” with a dose of “dreamy palace life,” the show explores the clash of cultures and personalities as the two navigate both their individual struggles and their burgeoning relationship. According to creator Rangita Pritish Nandy, “The Royals” offers a satirical look at a dysfunctional world of privilege and pretense, questioning notions of power and authenticity.

Khatter highlighted the show’s unique blend of modern satire, drama, and classic rom-com elements, emphasizing its culturally rich portrayal of a side of India rarely seen on screen and its appeal to global audiences. Pednekar added that the series’ themes of love, ambition, and identity resonate universally, focusing on a female character who challenges traditional notions of strength.

All eight episodes of “The Royals” will be available to stream on Netflix starting April 24th at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT.
