**Malappuram, Kerala, May 11, 2025** – The condition of a 42-year-old woman hospitalized with the Nipah virus in Malappuram, Kerala remains unchanged. The woman, currently in a coma and on ventilator support, shows no signs of improvement or deterioration, according to District Medical Officer R. Renuka. She has received treatment according to the state’s Nipah protocol.

Health Minister Veena George reported that 11 more individuals on the woman’s contact list tested negative for the virus, bringing the total number of negative tests to 42. However, 18 new contacts were added, raising the total contact list to 112 (54 high-risk and 58 low-risk). Ten individuals on the list are receiving treatment for other ailments, with two in intensive care and receiving prophylactic treatment.

Extensive surveillance efforts continue. Trained health officials visited 2,087 houses in the Valanchery area on Sunday, covering 87% of the targeted homes. A joint investigation with the Animal Husbandry department will commence Monday to study animal behavior, investigate recent animal deaths, and collect samples, focusing primarily on cats and dogs.
