Mon May 12 01:00:00 UTC 2025: **Panthers Stun Maple Leafs in Overtime Thriller, Narrowing Series Deficit**
SUNRISE, FL – Brad Marchand scored at 15:27 of overtime, securing a thrilling 5-4 victory for the Florida Panthers over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Second Round series. The win cuts the Leafs’ series lead to 2-1.
The game was a back-and-forth affair. Toronto jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a lightning-quick goal from Matthew Knies just 23 seconds into the game – the fastest goal to start a playoff game in Leafs history since 1962 – and a subsequent goal by John Tavares. Tavares would later add a power-play goal, giving him two for the night.
Florida battled back, however, with goals from Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, and Carter Verhaeghe, tying the game at 3-3. Jonah Gadjovich, playing in his first game since April 15th, then gave the Panthers their first lead of the game at 4-3. Morgan Rielly’s late goal in the third period sent the game into overtime.
Marchand’s overtime heroics, a wrist shot that deflected off Rielly, proved to be the game-winner. The goal marked Marchand’s fourth career playoff overtime goal and made him the oldest player in Panthers history to score an overtime playoff goal.
While Toronto controlled much of the first period, Florida dominated the second, finding their identity according to coach Paul Maurice. Both goaltenders, Sergei Bobrovsky for Florida and Joseph Woll for Toronto, made key saves throughout the high-stakes contest.
The series now shifts back to Florida for Game 4 on Sunday, with the Panthers looking to even the series. Both teams showcased resilience and skill, promising an exciting conclusion to this hard-fought series.
