Sun May 11 23:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Panthers Aim for Faster Start in Game 4 Against Maple Leafs

**FORT LAUDERDALE, FL** – The Florida Panthers, down 2-1 in their Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, look to even the score in Game 4 on Sunday. While a Brad Marchand overtime goal in Game 3 shifted the series momentum, the Panthers acknowledge the need for improvement.

A key area of focus for Florida is their slow starts. They’ve conceded first-minute goals in two of the three games, highlighting a need for increased early-game awareness, according to coach Paul Maurice. “Not a goal against,” Maurice stated simply, emphasizing the importance of a stronger defensive opening.

The series has been high-scoring, with both teams exceeding expectations offensively. Toronto’s offense has been led by William Nylander (3 goals), while Auston Matthews, the Maple Leafs captain, remains goalless. Coach Craig Berube, however, isn’t overly concerned, emphasizing the need for more shots on net.

For the Panthers, limiting Toronto’s rush chances is paramount. Defenseman Seth Jones pointed to defensive gaps and the Leafs’ quick transition game as contributing factors to Florida’s defensive struggles. Improved defensive play is crucial to supporting goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will be looking for more production from Matthews, as well as improved goaltending from Joseph Woll, who started Game 3 and allowed 5 goals.

The Panthers’ third line, featuring Marchand, Lundell, and Luostarinen, has been particularly effective in containing Toronto’s top line. Marchand, celebrating his 37th birthday on game day, is on a five-game point streak.

The series has seen home-ice advantage prevail in each game so far. A Panthers win would mark a significant comeback, as only three reigning Stanley Cup champions have advanced past the first round after falling behind 2-0 since 1967. Game 4 is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Amerant Bank Arena.
