**Beijing, May 12, 2025** – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Shigatse, Tibet, early this morning at 5:11 a.m. local time (2111 GMT), according to the China Earthquake Administration (CEA). The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), prompted the immediate dispatch of emergency response teams. So far, no casualties have been reported. This follows a more devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake in January that claimed over 120 lives in Tingri county, approximately 240 km from Shigatse.
