Mon May 12 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Gold Prices Surge in Varanasi’s Sarafa Bazaar
**Varanasi, May 12:** Gold prices witnessed a significant jump in Varanasi’s Sarafa Bazaar today, May 12th, with rates increasing by up to ₹320 per 10 grams. This surge follows fluctuating international gold prices over recent weeks. Silver prices, however, remained unchanged.
The price of 24-carat gold rose to ₹98,820 per 10 grams, up from ₹98,500 on May 11th. Similarly, 22-carat gold saw a ₹300 increase, reaching ₹90,600 per 10 grams (compared to ₹90,300 on May 11th). However, 18-carat gold saw a slight decrease, falling by ₹230 to ₹74,120 per 10 grams.
Silver prices remained stable at ₹99,000 per kilogram, consistent with the previous day’s rate. This stability contrasts with the volatility seen in the gold market.
Vijay Tiwari, the patron of the Varanasi Sarafa Association, attributed the price fluctuations to the ongoing instability in the international market and anticipates further price swings in the coming days. Consumers are advised to check the purity (measured in carats, with 24-carat being the purest) and hallmark of gold before purchasing.
