Mon May 12 06:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Banks Across India to Observe Extended Weekend Closure for Buddha Purnima
**NEW DELHI –** Indian bank customers are gearing up for a four-day weekend as banks nationwide will remain closed on both Sunday, May 11th, and Monday, May 12th, in observance of Buddha Purnima. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared six holidays for the month of May, in addition to regular Sunday and second/fourth Saturday closures.
While banks will be closed for in-person transactions, customers can still access their funds via ATMs, online banking, and mobile banking apps. However, cheque and promissory note transactions will be unavailable during the holiday period.
Due to variations in state-specific holidays, customers are advised to check with their local bank branches for a confirmed holiday schedule to avoid any inconvenience. The RBI’s holiday calendar for May 2025 includes six designated holidays, plus regular weekend closures.
