Mon May 12 06:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Banks Closed Monday for Buddha Purnima

**NEW DELHI** – Several major Indian cities will see banks closed on Monday, May 12th, in observance of Buddha Purnima, a significant Buddhist holiday. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared it a bank holiday across numerous locations, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bhopal, Nagpur, and Raipur, among others. A full list of affected cities includes Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, and Srinagar.

This closure adds to the existing weekend closures on May 10th and 11th, creating a three-day bank holiday for many. Buddha Purnima, commemorating the birth and enlightenment of Gautama Buddha, is widely celebrated across Asia.

While branches will be closed, the RBI assures customers that digital banking services will remain operational. Online transactions, NEFT and RTGS fund transfers, ATM withdrawals, and other online banking functions will continue uninterrupted.

Customers are advised to check with their individual banks or the RBI website for the most accurate information regarding local closures. Bank holiday schedules vary by state and region.
