Mon May 12 04:51:03 UTC 2025: ## 84-Year-Old Artist Amitabh Sengupta Showcases Lifetime of Work in Bangalore Exhibition

**Bangalore, India (May 12, 2025)** – Renowned artist Amitabh Sengupta is currently exhibiting his work in two Bangalore venues. “Shared Echoes,” at Gallery Time and Space, features pieces from his “Forest” and “Inscription” series, showcasing a unique blend of styles influenced by his extensive travels and lifelong fascination with scripts. A concurrent retrospective at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) presents a broader overview of his career, spanning from his early Parisian studies to his later works in India and Nigeria.

Sengupta’s art reflects his nomadic life, having lived and worked in Paris, Nigeria, and the United States. The “Forest” series highlights the urgent issue of deforestation, while the “Inscription” series is a deeper exploration of the enduring power of written language, drawing inspiration from historical inscriptions and ancient scripts like Brahmi and Pali. Sengupta has even developed his own unique script, featured abstractly in his canvases.

The artist explains his work as a visual representation of the evolution of communication, from cave paintings to modern fonts. He sees each script, including his own creation, as a complete aesthetic form, highlighting the beauty and complexity found in written expression across cultures and time.

“Shared Echoes” runs until May 18th at Gallery Time and Space, with free admission (closed Mondays). The NGMA retrospective provides a more comprehensive view of Sengupta’s extensive body of work, encompassing paintings and sculptures.
