**Vellore, India (May 11, 2025)** – G. Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York. The honor recognizes Viswanathan’s vision and leadership in expanding STEM education across India, particularly his commitment to supporting underprivileged students.
RIT President David C. Munson and Provost Prabu David presented the doctorate. This is the latest in a series of honorary doctorates for Viswanathan, who previously received similar awards from West Virginia University (2009), Binghamton University (2024), and St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (2025).
Viswanathan expressed his gratitude to RIT for the recognition. VIT vice-presidents Sankar Viswanathan and Sekar Viswanathan were also present at the ceremony.
