Sat May 10 06:16:08 UTC 2025: ## G7, US Urge India and Pakistan to De-escalate Amidst Military Crisis
**NEW DELHI, May 10, 2025** – Tensions remain high between India and Pakistan following a significant military escalation. The G7 nations, along with the European Union, have issued a joint appeal for immediate de-escalation and urged both countries to engage in direct dialogue. This follows a phone conversation between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, where Mr. Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to a measured and responsible approach.
Mr. Rubio previously spoke with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, also advocating for de-escalation and offering U.S. assistance for talks. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister also engaged in diplomatic efforts, speaking with both Mr. Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart.
India strongly condemned Pakistan’s continued attacks on civilian targets in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, citing shelling in Rajouri that resulted in the death of Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri categorically denied Pakistan’s claims of significant damage to Indian military installations, calling them false. He also dismissed Pakistani allegations of Indian missile strikes in Amritsar and Afghanistan as ludicrous and frivolous. Mr. Misri highlighted Pakistan’s targeting of civilian populations and infrastructure in Afghanistan on multiple occasions in the last year and a half.
The current crisis stems from India’s “Operation Sindoor,” launched on May 7, targeting terror camps within Pakistan. The G7 statement strongly condemned the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which appears to be the catalyst for the current escalation. The international community is actively working to prevent further conflict and encourage a peaceful resolution.
