**Philadelphia, PA** – Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the world record holder in the women’s 400m hurdles, is set to compete in a completely new arena at the upcoming Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track Series in Philadelphia (May 30th – June 1st). The 25-year-old American star will race in both the 100m hurdles and the 100m flat sprint, marking her professional debut in the 100m flat race.
McLaughlin-Levrone’s incredible 50.37-second world record in the 400m hurdles, set at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has made her a global track and field icon. However, she will face a stiffer challenge in the shorter hurdle race. Her personal best in the 100m hurdles is 12.65 seconds, significantly slower than Tobi Amusan’s world record of 12.12 seconds. Her most recent 100m hurdles time, a 12.71, was recorded in May 2024 into a headwind.
While this will be her first professional 100m flat race, McLaughlin-Levrone has previously competed in indoor 60m sprints and the 200m, achieving a personal best of 22.07 seconds.
The women’s 100m hurdles are scheduled for May 30th, and the 100m flat race will take place on May 31st at Franklin Field. This exciting competition promises to showcase McLaughlin-Levrone’s versatility and athleticism as she pushes her limits in unfamiliar distances.
