**New Delhi, May 10, 2025** – Saudi Arabia has launched a diplomatic initiative to de-escalate escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a series of military actions. The Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, visited both New Delhi and Islamabad this week to urge dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The heightened tensions began after India conducted precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Pakistan retaliated with a wave of drone attacks targeting multiple locations across India on Friday night, claiming earlier that Indian missiles and drones had targeted three of its airbases. India’s defense ministry reported that these attacks were successfully thwarted.
Al-Jubeir’s unannounced visit to New Delhi on Thursday involved discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar regarding the escalating situation. His subsequent visit to Islamabad on Friday included talks with Pakistan’s leadership. A Saudi statement confirmed their efforts to end military confrontations and promote dialogue. Pakistan’s claim of significant damage to its military infrastructure by India has been refuted by the Indian military. The ongoing situation is being closely monitored, with Saudi Arabia playing a key mediating role.
