Sun May 11 06:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India Inaugurates BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile Production Unit in Uttar Pradesh

**Lucknow, India** – Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor on Sunday. The facility, built at a cost of ₹300 crore, is expected to produce 80-100 missiles annually. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the missile’s power, referencing its use in Operation Sindhu, and its impact on global perceptions of India’s military capabilities.

The new unit, spanning 200 acres of land, is part of the Defence Industrial Corridor launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018. In addition to the production unit, Singh also inaugurated an aerospace integration and testing facility and a plant producing titanium and super alloys for aerospace applications. The facility will also produce 100-150 next-generation BrahMos missiles annually. These next-generation missiles are lighter (1290 kg vs 2900 kg) and can be carried by fighter jets like Sukhoi in greater numbers (up to three, compared to one previously). Their range exceeds 300 kilometers.

The initiative aims to reduce India’s reliance on foreign defence imports, boost domestic production, and generate employment. BrahMos missiles, jointly developed by India and Russia, are capable of being launched from land, air, and sea, playing a crucial role in India’s defence strategy. The inauguration also included the foundation stone laying ceremony for several Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS) facilities.
