Sun May 11 06:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Congress Demands Parliament Session on India-Pakistan Ceasefire

**New Delhi:** The Indian National Congress has demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi jointly wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concerns about the agreement and urging a comprehensive discussion.

The letter highlights a 1994 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha resolution unanimously demanding Pakistan’s withdrawal from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Congress criticized US President Trump’s initial announcement of the ceasefire, arguing that it wrongly presented a bilateral issue as an international one. The party also expressed concerns about the Pulwama attack, Operation Sundar, and the handling of the ceasefire negotiations.

Rahul Gandhi stated that a special session would allow for a collective national response to the situation and prepare for future challenges. He questioned the benefits India received in exchange for the ceasefire. Congress leader Sachin Pilot reiterated the party’s stance that PoK is an integral part of India and must be reclaimed. He emphasized the 1994 resolution demanding Pakistan’s withdrawal from illegally occupied territories in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with both Indian and Pakistani military officials to de-escalate tensions. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reportedly assured Blinken that India will continue to act responsibly. President Trump later announced the ceasefire following diplomatic discussions between the US and both countries. India subsequently confirmed the agreement.
