NEW DELHI, May 11, 2025 – The Delhi Police have established a new specialized unit, the Delhi Police Disaster Response Force (DPDRF), to handle emergencies and natural disasters, according to a senior officer. The 270-member force, comprised of Sub-Inspectors and constables, is undergoing intensive training by the National Disaster Response Force. Their training will cover rescue operations for fires, building collapses, floods, and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) emergencies.
Simultaneously, the police have identified potential air raid shelters in residential and commercial building basements, as well as metro stations. A list of children and elderly residents is being compiled to facilitate rapid evacuation in case of emergency. The police are also collaborating with civil defence volunteers and residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) to develop and implement community-based emergency response plans, including public education on responding to emergency sirens.
